My kids love costumes. These photos are from ordinary days, with no reason for dressing up other than fun. They spend entire afternoons dressing up in one outlandish outfit after another, trying to top each other's crazy ensembles.
We've had countless days with ballerinas here, wearing their tutus to meals and even to bed. It's not uncommon for a doctor to sit next to pirates while we read books. They play games that absolutely require costumes, like prince and princesses or pirates. But usually the costumes are worn just for everyday things, like playing trains.
Sometimes they wear costumes for an event, like a church Halloween party.
Of course, birthdays are a great reason to dress up!
On a spring day in 2011, Madelyn got dressed into a giraffe costume that she especially loved at the time. She wore it all day, to story time and everywhere we went. She napped in it and ate meals as a giraffe.
I'm picky about the house being clean an organized, and I'm careful about the books and movies my kids see. I can be really uptight about certain things. But I really don't mind if my kid wears a crazy costume all day, wherever we go!
Declan began dressing in costumes at a very young age, thanks to his siblings!

Someday my kids will be too old to dress up like this, and I'm sure I'll miss it.
